Rainwater collection systemFormosa Petrochemical has an unwavering commitment to minimizing pollution and risks and continuously seeks a balance between industrial development and environmental protection. To put our dedication to the environmental protection in practice, we utilize the most advanced equipments and technology. We have made efforts to minimize pollution in the following areas:

  • Air Pollution Control: We utilize the Best Available Control Technology (BACT) system, a 24-hour monitoring system that allows the national environmental administration to oversee our operation status.
  • Wastewater Management: Our wastewater treatment system collects the water discharged from our plants and removes the contaminants before releasing it to open bodies of water. The quality of the treated water is such that we can used to breed fish in our complex aquarium.
  • Waste Management: Formosa Petrochemical is committed to thorough processing and recycling of our waste materials, utilizing the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system to manage, transport, and keep track of our wastes materials.

Through our efforts, we have not only met all local environmental regulations, but have gone beyond to fulfill various national environment objectives and targets. For our efforts in environment protection, we received ISO 14001 certification on August 2002.

Energy and water conservation has been a top priority for Formosa Petrochemical. In 2005, the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Committee and Water and Energy Exploitation and Conservation Committee were established to study and promote greenhouse gas emission reduction, as well as energy and water consumption reduction. Through the work of these committees, we has not only effectively conserved energy and reduced waste, but also received the Energy Conservation and CO2 Reduction Awards from the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Taiwan.
